 "Remarkable HDTV" 2009-11-01

I absolutely love this HDTV. I constantly get compliments from people about the amazing picture quality of this television. I'm now looking for a smaller bedroom television and will definitely be sticking with a quality Samsung product such as this.

 "Great picture" 2009-10-18
By John S. Dean (Sturtevant, WI United States)
This TV replaced a 42" insignia LCD. There is no comparison, although I only paid $100 more for this than I paid for the Insignia less than 2 years ago.

I hadn't planned on replacing my TV, since I was not dissatisfied with my old one, but the whole time I was beta testing Windows 7 on my media , I could not use the HDMI out. So I took the chance on the problem being with an older TV rather than my newer computer, and it paid off. I got to use HDMI again.

The picture is crisp, very little artifacts. Sports, movies, everything looks good. I spent the last couple days jumping randomly through my movie collection checking things out at 1080P again, and love the results. So bright, so crisp, all without having to be in torch mode.

My Xbox Elite is out for repair, so I went and bought a Sony PS3 and some games to try it out with, and games are outstanding.

For a completely unplanned, spur of the moment purchase, I am very happy with this unit. I had narrowed myself down to four different brands, a Sony, a LG, another Insignia ,and this. When I went to the local brick and mortar, they had all of the nearby, and I was able to direct compare them all with the same source running, and this one, while more expensive than the others I was looking at, more than made up for the minor price difference by having such a noticeably better picture.

And the fact that the remote is in the database for my Harmony One remote didn't hurt either - discrete codes for pretty much everything there is on the TV.

Very happy in every respect with this TV.

 "Horrible Support" 2009-10-10
By A. Putnam
It was nice while it lasted. It died in July. It is still broken.

This is the saga of my still unresolved problem television. I would have never imagined that 3 months would pass and I would still be stuck with a dead television. Every time I think I have turned a corner that will bring me to the end, a fixed television it is not so.

I should have never purchased a Samsung product. Plain and simple. I know this now. I purchased an LCD television and to make matters worse I purchased it from Sears. This was on 12/19/2009. I was happy. The TV worked and it looked good. Until it didn't. In late July of 2009 the TV would not power on correctly.

- I called Samsung support because Sear's sales person told me it only had a manufacturer warranty unless I upgraded to theirs. We did some troubleshooting and the technician determined the problem. He said the parts will be shipped to me and I will call a technician who will visit and fix the TV.

- A week passes and I do not see any parts. I call the repair company Samsung has contracted and they say the parts are back ordered. Okay I wait.

- I wait a month and I see nothing. I check the status of my ticket online and it says the ticket is canceled. I call the repair company again. They say the parts are still on back order and suggest calling Samsung.

- I call Samsung and the woman tells me the parts are back ordered. I ask here for an ETA. She says there is none. I ask her what good is my warranty if there are no parts to fix the TV. At this point it seems there is no intention of fixing my TV. The apathy pours out of my earphone. I finally tell her that I just wish to sell the useless TV back to them. She offers to arrange for Executive Customer Service to exchange the TV. Since it will never be fixed I settle for that.

- After a week someone finally calls me. This is in early September. We exchange information. He says that he will prepare the exchange which will take a week (really?? a week) and then it will be sent to Sears to exchange the TV since I purchased it there. I ask how long all of this should take to get the TV. He says two weeks.

- The next week I get a call from the same representative (I guess it does take a week) and he says the information has been sent to Sears and I should hear from them shortly, riiiiiiiiight.

- I do not hear from them. I call Samsung for a status. They say they know nothing. This I do believe. I ask them to check with Sears on the status, maybe give a nudge.

- Two weeks later there is no contact. I call Samsung and ask if I can have the contact information for the person at Sears receiving the exchange request and an RMA number. The woman gives me the RMA number but will not release the contact info. I ask her if she can contact them for a status. She says she can re-submit the request.

- Still nothing. I try calling some Sears numbers and no one knows what an RMA number is. I am not joking. Everyone said they didn't even know what an RMA was.

- A couple days later I get a call from I'm not sure if it was Sears, Samsung or an intermediary. She said she was from some company other than Sears or Samsung. They say they will contact someone at my local Sears store and make sure something happens.

- Nothing happens. I decide to visit the store (09/04/09). I am told that nothing can be done until the department manager is back and he will be in on Saturday. I come in on Sautrday. He is not there. I come in on Monday. He is not in. I am told he will be in on Thursday. I come in on Thursday. He is in. I give him the RMA number from Samsung. He checks it and calls HQ. He says it is not a Sears RMA number and is probably a Samsung reference number. He asks me to call Samsung and see if they can e-mail the exchange information to him and he will try and take care of it. He gives me his card. I call Samsung and give them the info. They need a fax number. I get the fax number and call back the rep updates the ticket and I ask him if someone will e-mail/fax the info. He's says that he is sure someone is working on the ticket and it will be done.

- (10/09/09) I am sure no one is working on it. No one ever has. Why would they now. I call Samsung. The women confirms that no one sent any information to the department manager at Sears. She says she will check with her manager to see if she can re-submit the request to Sears HQ (which has been done twice supposedly) and "maybe" in addition send it to the department manager. No promises, no hope, end of call.

I have no idea what is going on. When I get on Samsung's site both tickets, the repair and exchange ticket are canceled (but I'm sure some one is working on it). I have never encountered such an infective system as Samsung's support service. I strongly recommend not buying a Samsung product. I will update this blog as more unfolds. I should have started this sooner but I could never have predicted such problems. In the meantime I relate my story to everyone I know, who are dismayed and affected. I am probably missing a lot of phone calls I have made but this is the meat of it.

This tv is great. We are very pleased with the quality of it. We got a great price because it was open box and it is brand new. We love it!

 "bad purchase" 2009-08-02
By D. Moawad (San Francisco, California United States)
would have loved to give it zero stars! i bought this tv in december 2008. from day 1, it had problems with pixelation, every now and then, red and green pixel lines showed up but then disappeared. they appeared with cable, with dish network channels and with DVDs. now, it's august 2009, and this tv has turned into a completely useless piece of furntiture, the screen is entirely red with occasional green, and almost no visible image. a diagnostic visit from a place like best buy will cost 150$ on sale, cable technicians came out twice and were not sure of the problem. it's just not what i expect of a brand name like samsung, i dropped 1500$ on this set, and would expect it to work perfectly right out of the box. now, 8 months later, im already thinking of a new major purchase to save msyelf the headache of dealing with parts, technicians, diagnostics, not to metion the hours of aggravation over the phone with call s. this time maybe a plasma tv. this was a bad purchase.

 "VideoSecu Wall Mount" 2010-01-04
By Kenneth Green
I was skeptical about this mount because it was so inexpensive. I received it today and it is a real bargain. I was mounting a 40 inch Toshiba LCD TV. It is very will made and well finished. It includes an assortment of screws to fit all TV's and detailed instructions. I can't imagine what would make any other mount worth paying more. It would hold virtually any weight TV since it can be mounted using lag bolts into studs.

 "BL Grapevine, TX" 2010-01-10
By Bob L (Grapevine, TX)
I rated picture quality and audio low due to an issue Toshiba is aware of but hasn't yet fixed. When using HDMI inputs to the TV from any device (FIOS set top box, Samsung BluRay, etc.) the audio becomes distorted after about 2 hours. To overcome this problem I am using the ColorStream inputs instead of the HDMI. ColorStream isn't affected with the distortion, but in my opinion the picture quality isn't as good as with HDMI. Toshiba support claims they are aware of the problem and are working on a firmware fix. It took me 2 months to report the problem (12/21/09)because I only had one HDMI device and wanted to eliminate that as the cause. I will update my review when Toshiba has fixed my problem.

 "Glare! And "backlight panels"???" 2009-11-27
By JPMDallas77 (Dallas, TX United States)
1st, let me say this, I upgraded from the Toshiba 46XV545U 120Hz LCD T.V. (bought in April 2009, it got stolen :( "Last year's model"). The picture on this one is noticeably better. In fact, it is awesome, BUT this TV has a couple drawbacks that people should be aware of, and I think its why it is $700 off its MSRP only a few months after it came out:

1) Case size: If you're expecting one of those "thin" LED backlit LCDs like Samsung's, look elsewhere. This TV is 4-6" thick, thicker even than the straight LCD I replaced. Also, it has about 3-1/2" fascia around the screen itself. This is also much more than my old TV, presumably to hold the LED backlights. So, the case is bigger. This fact, combined with the design, makes it look old, like a 5 year old LCD. I much preferred my old Toshiba in terms of design.

2) Glare. Maybe I didn't look closely enough at the description, but my last Toshiba had a matte finish on the screen, which given my sunny living room, was a huge plus and should not be underestimated. This TV has a glossy finish on the screen, which results in lots of glare. This affects watching TV during the day big time and unless you have a dark media room, you need to be aware of this.

3) "Backlights"? @ Jason B. LeBrun, "ubrban nerd": Granted, I am not a techie, and don't know much about LED v. conventional backlighting on LCD TVs, but the backlighting issue here is not more cool than annoying, its annoying to the point that if my particular TV is not defective or malfunctioning, I cannot recommend this TV. If this effect is universal, then I guess its something we all have to live with for now. The "effect" is a large (6" square or so) glowing box around a bright object on a dark background. In other words, say you're watching "The Dark Knight" at night, and hoping to enjoy those "deep blacks" you've been hoping for with a 240Hz, LED-backlit TV, well, you get them, unless there's a candle or light on screen (which is all the time), in that case, there is a faint, light square of glow around that light that significantly brightens the supposed dark blacks around it. If you have your computer linked in, and move the mouse cursor around a black background, as Mr. LeBrun said, you can see this light box move around the TV as different segments of the backlights light up, casting their glow in a square around it. This is to the great detriment of an otherwise perfect picture. Very distracting, and takes away from the best quality of the TV, the "dark blacks." Like I said, if this is common to all LED backlit LCDs, then fine, but it is very noticeable here, and if its particular to this model, I would say look elsewhere. My old Toshiba didn't have his issue, and I almsot wish I'd just replaced it with an identical model.

"Very pleased with this TV." 2009-11-01
By Jason B. LeBrun (San Francisco, Ca)
I'm really impressed with the quality of the image of this television, especially given the price I paid. I had been looking at the Samsung LED panels, and although they were beautiful and vibrant, the increase in image quality didn't seem commensurate to the increase in price. So, I had given up on getting an LED-backlit panel, until I discovered this Toshiba. It was just released, and I was a little nervous about getting it sight-unseen, but I decided to take the plunge, and I'm glad I did.

The colors really pop out. The LED backlighting makes a *huge* difference for blacks. On my old 46-inch TV (a Sharp AQUOS), when watching dark movies, or standard-def stuff with black bars, the blacks would glow pretty noticeably in a dark room. Of course, this was par for the course for an LCD panel at that time, and it wasn't the worst thing ever.

With the proper configuration on this Toshiba panel, when viewing SD content in a dark room, the black bars fade into the darkness almost perfectly. Sometimes you can notice the selective backlighting. If there is a small bright object on a black background, it will have a slight aura from the section of backlight being on. If you connect a computer, set a black screen and move a white mouse pointer around, you can actually identify the backlighting elements. It's more cool, than annoying. I guess because of the way the human eye works, you really don't notice the panels/auras under normal viewing.

The media player functionality is pretty much worthless... it wouldn't play any of the movie files that I had on hand. Since I have an HTPC attached, it's not much of an issue. I basically bought the TV to function as a monitor.

Pros:

*Nice solid blacks due to the dynamic backlighting

*SD content from my Wii and DVDs displays beautifully.

*Plenty of connections

*Lots of complicated picture settings. I'm not a pro when it comes to calibration and viewing configuration, so my opinion is less valuable here.

*Pretty decent sound for stock TV speakers.

*Power-saving off mode to reduce parasitic power drain

*Pretty low power for the size under normal operation

Cons:

*The VGA input doesn't support HD resolution (!!) -- luckily, all of my computers have DVI/HDMI output

*Sleeping the display (when a computer is attached, eg) results in an annoying "No Video Signal" announcement bar to be displayed.

*Sleeping the display also turns off sound (this is a minor nitpick, and soon won't matter since I'll have an external sound system)

*Sometimes the image size options don't suffice for getting the picture to fill the screen properly. I really miss the setting on the AQUOS that widened things more as you approach the side. It usually resulted in a full-screen effect for SD content. The Toshiba options are to cut off part of the screen, or have black bars. Of course, due to the LED backlighting, the black bars are not noticeable which is nice.

"LED Backlit LCD TV, not LED TV" 2009-10-22
By JC (Texas)
Just to let you know Underhill, Samsung doesn't make a single LED TV, they make an LCD that's backlit with LED lights instead of CCFL lights. The only LED you can purchase right now is a 12 inch LED from Sony which runs about $7000, that is a TV screen made up of lots of tiny LED lights. The "Samsung's LED" TV's as they call them are nothing but a traditional Liquid Crystal Display like any other LCD except the lights behind them are different. Plus the Samsung one isn't totally backlit only edge lit so the contrast in the middle of the picture isn't the same as the outer edges. So do some research before you buy, LG and Sony both make very good fully LED backlit LCD TV's, not just edge lit, so you get much more even contrast across the whole screen plus the benefit of "Local Dimming."

 "Regza" 2009-10-16
By R. L. Underhill (Champlin, MN United States)
I purchased a new Regza in June 2009. Three months later the picture has vertical blue lines and when red is displayed, I get vertical red lines running from top to bottom. They fade in and out when each color is displayed on the screen. Very distracting for an expensive TV. I called Toshiba and they didn't seem to care. I looked on you tube and found others that have the same problems.

Would I buy another Toshiba Regza ? Hell no.

Now, I have to find a repair and haul it over there. Lucky me.

I think I'll try Samsung LED next. No more LCD's

If you own a Regza now, better hope is doesn't start the vertical line crap.

"Software update fixed DVI-HDMI problem" 2009-12-11
By Jeffrey (Silicon Valley)
I bought my LC-46E77U to serve both as a TV and as a monitor for my living room computer (Mac Mini), so I was deeply disappointed to experience the same problem April King (11/7/09) and other internet reviewers have described: the unit would not consistently recognize the MacMini video signal via a DVI-to-HDMI cable. I'd have to power-cycle the TV, time the Mac's reboot, all kinds of nonsense simply to get a picture. Pretty darn useless as a monitor, no?

GOOD NEWS: Sharp's software update appears to have fixed the problem. Now that my E77 plays well with my Mac, I can happily give it five stars. The procedure is simple:

1) [...] / customer support / product downloads

2) LCD TVs / LC-46E77U / Firmware

3) Select firmware update for your set and save onto USB drive. Unzip and place in root of drive.

4) Follow installation directions in manual, page 30 (or just insert drive into TV and press MENU / Digital Setup / Software Update)

If it works for you as it did for me, your beautiful and expensive doorstop will turn back into an excellent monitor. Thank goodness -- I was thinking of returning it.

 "Calibration Settings + Tips/Tricks" 2009-11-07
By April King (Minneapolis, MN USA)
I actually own the sister version of this product (the Sharp LC-52E77U), but the information in this review is equally applicable to this TV since they use the same, albeit smaller, panel.

Since I have owned this TV for a few months now, I thought it would be helpful to share a few tips and tricks I have learned:

PROBLEM: INCOMPATIBLE AUDIO SIGNAL

All my A/V devices (360, PS3, Wii, Samsung DTB-H260F) were connected to my Onkyo TX-SR607 receiver with HDMI, which was set to output to my Sharp Aquos LC-52E77U. And, although the receiver was set to "Audio TV Out" off (and even with it on), the TV kept popping up this error:

"Incompatible audio signal has been received, please check the output signal."

It only pops up for a few seconds, and only when I would switch devices or resolution or whatever. Still, pretty annoying. Connecting the devices directly to the TV via HDMI caused the same error - the only time it didn't happen is when there was 2ch 44.1/48Khz PCM involved.

Unfortunately, unlike every other TV I have ever owned, the Sharp doesn't have a menu option to disable audio. Muting didn't help, either.

The solution? Set the audio volume to 0. No more error!

PROBLEM: NO DEVICE DETECTED (DVI -> HDMI)

When I first got this TV, I plugged in my Mac Mini, using a DVI -> HDMI cable. After using it for a bit, the TV would stop recognizing that the Mac Mini was connected. It turns out that, whenever the Mac Mini would be rebooted or would go to sleep, the Sharp would refuse to recognize that it was connected anymore.

The solution? Physically unplugging and plugging in the TV (not just pressing the power button), and disabling sleep on the Mac. I still have to do this unplugging dance occasionally - like for system updates - but not as often as when sleep was enabled. I guess that's the price you pay for a beautiful 1080p HDMI signal, as opposed to a letterboxed 1600x1200 VGA signal - the max this TV supports.

CALIBRATION SETTINGS

This TV has some definite problems with blues in areas of high contrast. Here are the best settings I have found, in order of their appearance in the menus:

OPC: Off

Backlight: +6 (you can adjust up or down a smidge if need be)

Contrast: +36

Brightness: -6

Color: +1

Tint: +1

Sharpness: -1

CMS Hue/Saturation/Value: 0

Color Temp.: Low (leave at Mid for color managed devices like Macs, or OTA TV)

R Gain: +11

G Gain: 0

B Gain: -10

Fine Motion Enhanced: Off (leave on for sports if you prefer)

Active Contrast: Off

Gamma Adjustment: 0

Film Mode: Off (I used Advanced(Low) for sports)

Digital Noise Reduction: Off

Monochrome: Off

Range of OPC: +16 Max, -16 Min (it is off, anyways)

 "Fantastic TV!" 2009-10-29
By DirecttvpanasonicDMR80
I purchased the 46 inch Sharp LCD TV from an internet retailer for nine-eighty-eight including shipping in Oct 2009. It arrived within a week in a box as big as a small car. This is a great TV. When you go through the initial setup it will look for channels (a cable thing I think) so just let it finish. When done use the input button on the remote to select the input that you used (HDMI 7 for instance)and the picture will appear. The entire setup including attaching the base took about 30 minutes just in time for Monday night football. Watching football on this TV is unbelievable, it is like you are on the sidelines. The colors are perfect and the whole setup looks great. My old 26 inch lcd which was sitting in our built in now looks like we were watching TV in a closet or box. I hooked the TV to my Direct TV HD DVR. I also bought a Monster Home Theater power surge device to protect my investment. It did seem to slightly improve the picture, but since it was near perfect in the first place it is really hard to tell. I was going to buy and LG LCD but discovered it did not have a simple Audio out which I need for my wireless headphones. The Sharp has more inputs and outputs than I will ever need. The 27000 to 1 contrast ratio seems great. I can't imagine needing a higher ratio. I also recommend you pay extra to get a 120MHZ TV (4ms response time).

 "Bargain winner" 2009-09-16
By Sibbi (San Diego, CA)
Just purchased this gem a few days ago and its performance has been spectacular. Setup was quite easy and multiple tweaks allow you to view the picture according to your individual taste. Blu-ray movies are as clear as you could possibly want, and baseball and football games on high def cable are equally enjoyable to watch.

With this set, you don't need to spend big bucks to obtain superior performance. It's a bargain winner.

"It's good "out of the box" but not perfect" 2009-09-12
By S. Thomas
I decided to take the plunge and get this TV after my last TV (a HDTV CRT) had its tube burst on me this summer. My requirements were pretty straightforward:

- 1080p (have to be future proof)

- 46"

- 120Hz or greater refresh rate so I don't have to deal with blurring when I'm watching sports

I'm happy with my Sharp LC46E77U with one exception: I think I'm seeing some blurring. Not a lot of blurring by any means, but I wasn't expecting any blur from a 120Hz TV. To be completely honest with you, I'm not sure if it's due to the broadcasts I'm watching or the TV causing ghosting effects, but it is a little bothersome right now.

The TV is great for almost all my daily viewing needs. We'll just have to see if the small amount of blur bothers me during football season.

 "Don't buy Samsung" 2009-12-22
By S. oberoi
This TV is not worth buying I bought mine in March 09 3 months later their was a problem with the TV. It was not working so the repair person came and changed the Mother board. Now again the TV is not working it power on of automatically every few seconds, their is no picture all I see is lines. Called Samsung again now they can't come out until a week. I plan to buy a new TV this week for my room and its not going to be a Samsung.

 "Great HDTV Purchase" 2009-12-11
By Stephen Dhein (Dallas, TX USA)
I purchased this HDTV about a year ago and I'm still very happy with the purchase.

"Great Picture, especially for 60hz" 2009-11-30
By David (MI)
I love this TV. I bought it for $700 during the customer vote in 2008.

I use this tv with Dish Network HD, Playstation 3 gaming and blurays, and a Nintendo Wii.

Dish- Picture is great. I have the dish set up to broadcast in 720p, because I watch mostly sports and the progressive looks better than interlaced, a little smoother. I rarely see any motion blur. Even in baseball, the video always looks crisp. All of the HD content looks great. The SD leaves much to be desired, but why watch SD when HD is available?

Playstation gaming and blurays- Gaming looks great. The video is smooth. Blurays are unbelievably crisp. They are absolutely stunning.

Wii-For a non HD device, the video is very good.

Sound-Just terrible. It is painful to listen, and the two weeks it took for me to get surround, I rarely used the tv. It causes alot of ear fatigue. Part of the problem may be TV placement in a corner, but it still shouldn't be this bad. Samsung really dropped the ball with their sound.

"DON'T even think about buying a Samsung TV!!!" 2009-11-14
By Carol N. (Maryland)
Okay, our LN46A550 TV was purchased in August 2008, we really liked it up until about 2 weeks ago. The TV started clicking when it turned on, and then you had to turn the power on several times to get it to turn on. Now the TV doesn't turn on at all. So here we are with a thousand dollar TV that is just 3 months out of warranty and it won't turn on. So we googled Samsung TV problems and found this wonderful site [...].

There are hundreds of complaints about Samsung TVs that stop working just after the warranty expires. Samsung is doing nothing to help the customers except telling them to go to the repair shops, which in many cases the repair will cost more than the original cost of the TV. I read the Amazon reviews when I bought this product and there were a few that had problems right after they purchased it, so I figured the warranty would cover it. I just wanted to make sure I added my review since I have had the TV for over a year and now the warranty definitely won't cover any repairs. Stay far away from Samsung, they definitely DO NOT stand behind their products!

"Power supply failure + terrible Customer Support" 2009-11-07
By N. Docquier (Philadelphia, PA USA)
I have purchased this 46" Samsung LCD TV set (LN46A550) in August 2008 and its power supply failed last month exactly 3 months after the warranty had expired. My problem is described on Samsung website as "My TV Is Turning Off And On By Itself (Power Cycling)", in the "LN46A550P3F Troubleshooting Guide". The issue is clearly well known by Samsung but they would not pay for the repair anyway, not to mention that they are not recalling this product in the first place. It costed me 300 USD to fix the power supply (including labor) for a 1000 USD (current value) LCD TV. So, this product is poorly constructed and on top of that, Samsung has definitely the worst customer support service ever. I would strongly discourage anyone to purchase a Samsung TV. Good luck if you already purchased one...

Touch of Color

Touch of Color Samsung's Series 6 marks the first appearance of TOC (Touch of Color) design in the 2008 LCD HDTV line-up. Inspired by designs from the automotive and fashion industries, Samsung's unique unique Transparent and Opaque Color molding process creates a clean, smooth finish infused with a hint of a translucent color during the manufacturing process for an ultra-sleek appearance.

InfoLink

Touch of Color Up-to-the-minute access to weather, news, sports and stock information is just a cable and a click away through the HDTV's Ethernet port and new InfoLink RSS service. An all-new user interface with digital contents management guide provides intuitive navigation and access to both internal and external content.

Auto Motion Plus 120Hz

auto motion plus 120Hz This technology doubles the frame rate from 60 to 120 frames per second (120Hz LCD panel) without repeating the same image to make more frames. Instead, the TV intelligently calculates the 'middle' image between frame A and frame B and inserts it in between (Auto Motion Plus 120Hz processor), making a fluid transition from one frame to the next.

Super Clear Panel

clear panel chart

super clear panel
Samsung enhances the clarity of select LCD HDTVs by replacing the light-diffusing plastic face of traditional LCD HDTVs with a  natural black panel with a clear anti-glare shield. Reduced reflection of external light creates a new dimension in image clarity, highlighting black and darkened areas, enabling vibrant, more compelling colors and a brighter, clearer picture.  Black will never again appear grayish. Black details will show in vivid black even in dark scenes.

The latest version of Samsung's breakthrough super clear panel technology makes colors appear more vibrant and blacks even deeper than ever. Enhanced films reduce glare and optimize off-angle viewing.

Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA)

DLNA logo

dlna daisy chain
You already know something about digital living. There's the TV and digital video recorder in your family room. (And another set in your bedroom.) You have a PC and digital printer in your office, along with a network attached storage device. And you've copied all your music onto your portable music player and haven't had to open a CD case for years. But getting them to talk to each other can be pretty tough. Why is it still so difficult to send digital content from one device to another?

Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a collaboration of the world's leading consumer electronics, PC and mobile companies that has created design guidelines for a new generation of products that can work together — no matter the brand.

Think for a moment about all of the photos "locked away" on your home PC that you wish you could access while entertaining your friends and family. Now, thanks to DLNA enabled devices, a DLNA-enabled PC can be accessed from the comfort of your living room or family room via a DLNA-enabled HDTV, where you can enjoy your memories with friends and family, without having to deal with the hassle and non-intuitive "PCexperience".

Or, say you recently downloaded your daughter's birthday party video from your digital camcorder to your PC. Now you want to share it with your parents who are visiting. Without DLNA, you probably have to burn a DVD of the video or hook up the camcorder to the TV. With DLNA, you can just use your TV's remote to call up the video on your TV. That's it.

We bought this for Christmas last year and I am just now getting around to writing a review. Not much to say other than it is a great TV. Great color; superb picture; easy to use. I wish the sound was better. We had to buy a external speaker system just to be able to enjoy it. This model was 120HZ stop motion and did not have Wi-Fi or a USB port so we can't get the streaming video movies from Amazon or Netflix. Now they have 240HZ Wi-FI models with LED back light for the same price. Tchnology never holds still.

 "Great TV!" 2009-12-02

Have had this TV for about a year now, and it is perfect.

We do have HD hookup, so the picture is much better obviously. It is fine without, but I would recommend HD to anyone buying this size TV.

I had read complaints about the sound quality, but I have noticed no problems with that.

And also glare is not a problem...and it is in a sunny room.

I have not used half of the features that are available with the TV...have not hooked up to any other source but the stereo.

 "Samsungs are the best!" 2009-11-15

I'm a little late with this review since we bought the tv a year ago, but I just wanted to voice my opinion of how much I love our TV! We researched hdtv's for a long time and we knew that Samsung made the very best! Now I am somewhat tech-savvy but really I think anyone can tell that Samsung is the best. If you don't believe me, go to your nearest Best B** or other electronics retailer. Look at the TV's on the walls and then look to see which screen seems closer to black and which colors look more true to life? The answer will be Samsung every time!

Now for someone who isn't all that tech savvy but wants to buy a great tv here's what to look for:

Contrast Ratio- This is what makes the screen seem look black. If you go to your local WalM*** or such place you will see that they have very cheap hdtv's... Even those these tv's are hdtv's, they mostly junk! Yes, I am aware that you can buy Samsungs there, but look at the specs. The contrast ratio may only be 2000:1.

1080p- This is going to give you a much better picture than a 740p. When we visited a friends house they had just bought an hdtv, but the screen was horribly "pixelated". It was awful! You will not get this with the Samsung. The picture is clear and so life-like its amazing!

120hz- The 120hz really does make a difference in fast squences. Other hdtv's tend to get blurry when there is some fast action... but not this Samsung! We have never had an issue with the screen being blurry.

I also really love the design and color of this particular tv. It's very modern and the red is a great little touch.

Not long after purchasing the tv, we had family over and were watching a movie. Our relatives (who own an hdtv) thought the movie was blu-ray because of how amazing the image quality was... They couldn't believe it was just the normal dvd!

You cannot beat the quality of Samsung tvs! Plus the price on Amazon will beat anyone else, and the shipping was great. It was fast, the people were very courteous and they even hooked everything up.

As far as the size of the tv, our couch is fairly far away from the tv and the 46 inch is the perfect size!

I can't say enough great things about this tv. HOWEVER, the only thing I will say is that if you are considering spending this much on a TV you may want to consider going with one of Samsungs new LED tv's. On Amazon they really aren't too much more and they are even more amazing!! We're considering buying one and putting this 46in one in our bedroom!

But if you don't want to spend more then you should defintely buy this tv. Like I said before we've had the tv for over a year and we have no regrets.

I am 100% pleased with the TV and with the Amazon experience. The first tv that was shipped to me had a problem and Amazon customer service took ownership of the problem and fixed if for me right away. It was my first purchase from Amazon and since then I have purchased around 8 other items from them. Service is what keeps people returning.
